'You Are Legend'

The Welsh Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War

New Paperback Illustrated

Postscript summary

Graham Davies remembers the nearly 200 Welshmen who volunteered for the British Battalion of the International Brigade to fight fascism in the 1936–1939 Spanish Civil War. The ill-prepared men, of whom at least 35 died, came from a range of backgrounds and included idealists, hunger marchers and unemployed coal miners. In telling their stories, Davies paints a picture of the social, cultural, religious and political situation of Wales during the 1930s.
