The Slow Train

A Railway Miscellany

New Hardback Illustrated

Postscript summary

Evoking a bygone era, Peter Ashley’s nostalgic series comprises three pictorial miscellanies. Through memorabilia, posters and photographs each title celebrates a time when travel was slower and ‘a particular if unpredictable pleasure’. Cosy waiting rooms, milk churns left by farmers for delivery to local dairies, enamelled signs, artwork displayed in compartments – the atmosphere of rail travel in the mid 20th century is recreated in this pictural collection.
