JRR Tolkien
The Mind Behind the Rings
Mark HornePostscript summary
This study examines the life and work of JRR Tolkien through the lens of the Christianity he inherited from his mother, a Roman Catholic convert. It shows how faith sustained him through the early deaths of both his parents, youthful poverty, enforced separation from his wife-to-be, Edith, and the horrors of the First World War, and how it informs the moral vision of The Lord of the Rings.
