Changing Destiny

In his introduction to Changing Destiny Ben Okri describes the play as taking ‘its life from a 4,000-year-old poem from ancient Egypt’. The poem’s title and the principal character of the play is ‘Sinuhe’ and the opening scene finds him conspiring with others to assassinate a tyrannical ruler. However distant in time, the play explores themes such as power, the deep motives for actions, exile and homecoming, which resonate with today’s world. First performed at the Young Vic in 2021.
