New Hardback Illustrated

Postscript summary

Beginning with William the Conqueror – whose coronation ended in pandemonium when the guard outside mistook the multilingual cheering as an assassination attempt and torched the nearby buildings – this volume explores the crowning of monarchs at Westminster Abbey up to that of Elizabeth II, including details such as the death of a knight when crowds surging to see Edward II caused a wall behind the High Altar to collapse.
