During the 18th century, Oxford experienced very low population growth, the loss of old industries and the university in decline; yet it was still reasonably prosperous and with the improvements in roads and transport, the city became a coaching and tourist centre. Recording apprenticeships as their numbers rose and fell over the period, this calendar offers a valuable source for the study of Oxford’s economy and population. Slightly off-mint.
