Marcia Williams

The Life and Times of Baroness Falkender

New Hardback Illustrated

Postscript summary

More than a decade before Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister, there was a powerful woman in Downing Street: Marcia Williams. Rescuing her from the misogynist slurs of MPs and the media, this biography reveals how the grammar-school girl from Northamptonshire became private secretary to Shadow Chancellor Harold Wilson in 1956, how she went on to mastermind his election victories, and how her political acumen sustained him in office.
