This volume presents extracts and images from four ‘stories’: The People of the Abyss, his investigation of London’s East End poor; his experiences as a war correspondent in the Russo–Japanese War in 1904; an account of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake; and his voyage to the southern Pacific aboard Snark.
