I grew up surrounded by books and music, as my father was the proprietor of a shop that sold both, including his own numerous publications on Leicestershire history, and my mother was a piano teacher.
After studying Classics at university I embarked on parallel careers as a church organist and a teacher in both adult and higher education; although I eventually ‘pushed back in all the stops’ on the first of these, I then successfully completed a PhD on one of the funniest authors in ancient Greek literature.
Since I started writing for Postscript in 2004 I’ve contributed to more than 200 catalogues and in the process I’ve encountered a myriad of fascinating books that have introduced me to many topics of which I fear I would otherwise have remained in ignorance!
