As surprising as it sounds a career in the exciting world of accounting was not my first choice. I had a passion for food and trained as a chef at catering college and then university. It wasn’t until I travelled the world, working in kitchens as I went, that I realized it would be difficult to balance my interests… cheffing vs rugby and the accompanying social life. The beer won and I retrained as an accountant, becoming ACCA qualified within the Debenham’s finance team and then moving to a farming trust as a Financial Controller.
When approached about Postscript I knew it was the company for me, offering the chance to working with something I have a genuine interest in (books trump a fashion retailer any day!) and, even better with my accountant brain, reduced books! I was brought up reading, half of my pocket money had to be spent on books, and so while many dreamt of visiting Disneyland, I wanted to go to Parc Asterix to see the characters come to life.
Books still play a massive part of my life; I am an avid historical fiction fan and wax lyrical about Roman invasions – lucky wife! When not working with numbers I continue to travel and experience new cultures, but instead of dodging civil wars (during my time in Nepal) you will now find me in a vineyard, eating cheese, a glass of wine in the hand and always with my head in a good book.
