This is a beautiful story about Eddie and his journey into the afterlife. Eddie is a war veteran and maintenance worker who saved the life of a young girl. After he dies he meets five people who changed his life when he was alive. All five people he comes across in heaven have a lesson to teach him and together they show how all lives are interconnected.
This is an easy read with a simple structure yet is poignant, inspirational and heartwarming. It shows how people affect your life without you realizing it and how nothing is random, everything happens for a reason.
The message is one of love, redemption and forgiveness. This is one of those books that stays with you. A wonderful story that touches your heart and soul. It’s one of my favourite books of all time, I couldn’t put it down!
The sequel to this story – The Next Person You Meet in Heaven – is equally inspiring and not what I was expecting. It tells the story of Eddie’s reunion in heaven with Annie, the little girl he saved and is a comforting, uplifting musing on his life and his purpose.
Mitch Albom is a great storyteller and one of my favourite authors. I have bought these books for all my nearest and dearest and they have loved them as much as me.
I would also highly recommend: Tuesdays with Morrie, For One More Day and The Time Keeper.
