Ethnoflora of the Soqotra Archipelago

The strange plants of the Soqotra Archipelago in the Indian Ocean south of Yemen have for centuries featured in travellers’ tales of dragon’s blood trees, cucumber trees and forests of frankincense, and that rich biodiversity is now studied by botanists and conservationists. The islands’ flora, sustained by the traditional practices of the Soqotrans, is recorded in this detailed, illustrated ‘ethnoflora’, which describes some 825 species but also provides information on the plants’ taxonomy, ecology, distribution and ethnobotany.
