Building the Great Society

Inside Lyndon Johnson's White House

New Paperback

Postscript summary

After obtaining enactment of John F Kennedy’s Civil Rights bill and tax cuts, Lyndon B Johnson set about building his vision of ‘a great society, a place where the meaning of man’s life matches the marvels of man’s labor’. This volume recreates the atmosphere in the White House as staff sought to help him realise aims including improving voting rights, medical care and education, while under increasing pressure from the strain of the Vietnam War. Slightly off-mint and felt-tip mark on lower trimmed edge.
