The first Batman comic strip, ‘The Case of the Chemical Syndicate’, drawn by Bob Kane, appeared in Detective Comics in May 1939. From that hugely successful debut, this big, colourful volume follows Batman’s progress year-by-year in comics such as World’s Finest, Justice League America and Batman publications, up to 2014. With hundreds of illustrations, including comic cover art, and plot synopses, this is the story of the Dark Knight told in his original medium.
