The General Motors brand Chevrolet was an early player in the British bus market, producing American-designed vehicles (and later British adaptations) that were widely used as small 14-seater buses and charabancs in the 1920s.

One of the first of the new diesels, the Class 40 locomotives, nicknamed 'whistlers' after their exhaust sound, worked the West Coast Main Line in the early 1960s with broader duties later in their career.
