The Ash Chests and Other Funerary Reliefs
Available in Stock
Between 1777 and 1809 Henry Blundell formed a large collection of classical sculpture – second only to that of the British Museum – which is now housed in the Liverpool Museum and Walker Art Gallery. This splendid volume publishes 113 funerary items from the collection, principally ash chests and their lids, with full descriptions, line-drawings and photographs. Davies provides transcriptions and translations of the inscribed texts and reassesses a number of chests of doubtful antiquity.
