My Own Story

If the lives of women today are utterly different to those of their forebears a century ago, it is largely thanks to Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928). This is her own story, in her own words. First published in 1914, with the vote for women still to be achieved, it tells how she attended her first suffrage meeting at the age of 14; recounts the vilification, imprisonments and hunger strikes she endured; and outlines the vision that inspired her.
