This collection of album reviews and themed track samplers, written by visionary musician, antiquarian and musicologist Julian Cope, lays out an alternative history of popular music since the 1950s. In place of the usual criteria of chart success, Cope uses energy, originality and heaviness. The result is a surprising but entirely credible new progression from Lord Buckley in concert in 1958 to The Vincent Black Shadow, 2006. NB: No-holds-barred language.
