Fought near Stirling on 23 and 24 June 1314, the Battle of Bannockburn was a decisive victory for Robert the Bruce in the Scottish Wars of Independence. It was England's greatest defeat of the Middle Ages, with Edward II's army of over 15,000 defeated by a Scottish force of 7,000. Chris Brown reassesses the terrain on which the battle was fought and contemporary narrative sources to recreate the campaign from the perspective of both Scots and English. Second edition.
