David Roberts (1796-1864) journeyed to Egypt in 1838 and in the following year visited the Sinai Peninsula, Jordan, Jerusalem and Baalbek. The landscape drawings he made during those travels, made into lithographs by Louis Haghe and published between 1842 and 1849, ensured his lasting fame. This volume gathers the original plates and presents them in chronological sequence, accompanied by excerpts from Roberts's travel diary, text by Fabio Bourbon and Antonio Attini's photographs of the same sites today.
