Canon Lapham examines all the early and important Petrine writings to identify a distinctly Petrine theology that was later submerged in the tide of western orthodoxy. A remarkably consistent tradition emerges; and Peter is shown to be neither the impetuous figure portrayed in the Gospel and Acts, nor the pontifical figure of later Church tradition, but a visionary who was concerned above all to hold together both the moral and cognitive aspects of the Faith.
