The writings of Horace Walpole (1717-1797) were edited shortly after his death by Mary Berry, although Walpole left instructions for arranging the material. In particular, he prepared his letters for publication. "As evidences of my own conduct," he wrote, "they give me greater satisfaction at this late period than any other part of my writings." Along with correspondence to Thomas Gray, Lady Hervey, Caroline Campbell, George Montagu, Henry Zouch and others, the volumes contain Walpole's published works of history, biography and art criticism, 'The Castle of Otranto', poetry, papers relating to the Thomas Chatterton 'Miscellanies' affair, and the Catalogue and Description of his villa at Strawberry Hill. Facsimile reprint with the illustrations collected in Volume X. Colour fade on spines.
