These selections are from the correspondence and speeches of Sir William Wentworth (1562-1614) of Wentworth Woodhouse, Yorkshire, and his son, Sir Thomas Wentworth (1593-1641), first earl of Strafford. They shed light on the parliamentary careers of both men, but particularly of Sir Thomas Wentworth's political life up to 1628 - the year of his release from imprisonment for refusing to pay the king's forced loan and his re-election to Parliament.
