In a 'Prologue' to this study, Calvocoressi describes Francis Bacon and Henry Moore as having very different approaches to the human body: 'Bacon working from the outside in, disintegrating and dissolving form; Moore from the inside out, pushing anatomical structure to the surface'. This volume explores the affinities between the two artists. Originally accompanying an exhibition at the Ashmolean, it includes essays by Calvocoressi, Harrison and Warner and the catalogue, with reproductions and commentary on 63 drawings, sculptures and paintings.
