Developed and built in the UK, the Nimrod military aircraft grew out of the de Havilland Comet, the world's first jet airliner. Bill Gunston's book documents, for the first time, a complete history of Nimrod, starting in 1942 when British aeronautical engineers were first considering a jet-propelled aircraft and ending in its recent demise. It is a tale of design triumph as well as of 'politically contrived disaster' and includes new information about a version of the aircraft previously kept secret.
