First published in 1884, The Golden Primer is an enchanting example of Victorian book illustration by one of the foremost painters and illustrators of the period, Walter Crane (1845-1915). In this beautiful facsimile edition, Crane's Arts and Crafts-style illustrations bring to life the simple text of a child's primer. The primer itself, with advice for the teacher, is by the prolific writer of school books and Edinburgh's first professor of education, John MD Meiklejohn (1836-1902).
