The Sasanian Empire, 226-640 CE, included large communities of Jews, but there are few surviving Jewish relics. Among the most important items are seals, whose style, inscriptions and sites of discovery give information about the size and status of Jewish populations. This volume comprises illustrations and descriptions of 57 Jewish seals, with comparative Zoroastrian and Christian examples. They are arranged by the themes depicted, such as Daniel in the lions' den and Abraham's binding of Isaac.
