All the painted images of the manuscript are reproduced in this book, while a lengthy introduction outlines its epic historical narrative and compares it with other manuscripts of the Mixtec region, offering insights into that culture's politics, calendar and society and explaining how to read ancient Mexican pictorial writing, of which the codex is a fine example.
