One of the few surviving ancient Mayan manuscripts, Codex Bodley was produced shortly before the Spanish conquest, then found its way to Oxford by 1605. All the painted images of the manuscript are reproduced in this book, while a lengthy introduction outlines its epic historical narrative and compares it with other manuscripts of the Mixtec region, offering insights into that culture's politics, calendar and society and explaining how to read ancient Mexican pictorial writing, of which the codex is a fine example.
